Puff print for corporate merch in Türkiye
Puff print is the raised, dimensional plastisol decoration method that gives logos a foam-rubber feel and a 3D presence on apparel. This page covers the puff ink chemistry, the substrates that hold a raised puff cleanly, the durability profile and where puff print earns its place on a corporate merch brief.
What puff print is and how it produces the raised effect
Puff print uses a plastisol ink mixed with a foaming agent — typically a heat-activated chemical blowing agent — that expands during curing to produce a raised, dimensional print. The ink is printed through a screen like standard plastisol, but the curing temperature and dwell time are tuned to activate the foaming agent. The result is a print that sits 1-3 mm above the substrate with a soft, foam-rubber feel.
Puff print has been a staple of sports merchandise, varsity apparel and youth-segment fashion since the 1970s. The dimensional effect catches light on its raised edges, reads as more tactile than flat plastisol, and gives a vintage or athletic aesthetic that flat ink can't match. The visual effect is unmistakable under any lighting condition.
In Türkiye, puff ink is mixed in our Levent studio from European raw materials. We hold over 30 stock puff colours including the most common corporate Pantone references. Specialty puff formulations (extra-high density, suede finish, metallic puff) are available with 3-5 working day lead times from European suppliers.
Substrates and product fit
Cotton is the classic puff substrate. Ringspun cotton, combed cotton, organic cotton, fleece, brushed cotton and heavy cotton all accept puff cleanly with a uniform raised effect. The fabric must be stable enough to hold the dimensional ink without distortion; very lightweight knits below 150 GSM may pucker around the puff edge after curing.
Poly-cotton blends (above 50% cotton) accept puff cleanly. Below 50% cotton, the polyester component can interfere with the foaming action and the puff effect may be less uniform. We use low-bleed puff formulations for low-cotton blends and adjust the cure temperature for the most demanding applications.
Fleece, French terry and sweatshirt knits accept puff cleanly with a pronounced raised effect that reads as premium on heavyweight garments. The dimensional ink sits in the loops of the fabric without filling them, giving a tactile dimensional finish.
Avoid puff on performance apparel that stretches heavily — the dimensional ink doesn't stretch with the fabric and can crack under heavy stretch. For these applications, we suggest standard plastisol with stretch additive.
Puff colours and Pantone matching
Standard puff inks cover the most common corporate colour references. Custom-mixed puff colours are available with 2-4 working day lead times; we mix from a base white puff and add pigment to the supplied Pantone reference. The achievable Delta-E is typically 2-3 against a Pantone reference, which is slightly wider than standard plastisol because the pigment loading is lower.
Puff ink over a dark substrate requires a white underlay first, then the puff colour on top. The underlay adds cost but is essential for vibrant colour on dark garments. Some corporate programs use a black puff over a black garment for a tonal dimensional effect that doesn't require an underlay.
Specialty puff colours — neon, metallic, glow-in-the-dark — extend the visual range. Neon puff reads as vibrant fluorescent on dark garments. Metallic puff gives a less brilliant metallic than foil but works on dimensional prints where foil can't be applied. Glow-in-the-dark puff absorbs light and re-emits it for hours after exposure.
Cure temperature and the dimensional effect
Puff cures at 160-180°C for 90-120 seconds in a conveyor dryer or 15-20 seconds in a heat press. The higher temperature and longer dwell time activate the foaming agent, which expands the ink 2-3× in volume during the cure cycle. Under-cured puff doesn't expand fully and looks flat; over-cured puff collapses and looks wrinkled.
We log cure temperature per batch and run a height-test on every fifth garment off the press to verify proper cure. For programs that need a specific puff height, we tune the ink formula and cure parameters to achieve the requested dimension within ±0.3 mm.
Puff survives 30-50 domestic wash cycles before visible flattening. The dimensional effect fades gradually with washing rather than cracking or peeling. For uniform programs that go through industrial laundering, puff has a shorter service life than standard plastisol — we flag this at the brief stage.
Run sizes, lead times and unit economics
Puff print shares the same silkscreen economics as standard plastisol — screen setup cost amortised across the run, plus a premium for the puff additive. On a four-colour corporate logo where one colour is puff, the per-piece premium is around 30-60% over standard plastisol.
Run sizes start at 30-50 units per design, with the per-unit price dropping meaningfully above 100 units. Below 30 units we usually suggest DTF with high-density film for cost reasons.
Lead time is 10-14 working days from written strike-off approval for a 100-unit, four-colour corporate apparel order. Puff doesn't add time, but it does require careful curing. Our press operators log cure temperature per batch and run a height-test on every fifth garment off the press.
Combining puff with other decoration methods
Puff combines cleanly with other decoration methods in a layered design. The most common corporate combinations are a puff logo over a printed underlay, a puff accent on an embroidered base, and a puff edge on a printed design. We walk each brief through the layering options at the design stage.
For programs that combine puff with embroidery — a puff accent stitched to the edge of an embroidered logo, for example — we run the embroidery first and the puff second to ensure clean registration. The combination is more expensive than either method alone but reads as a much more premium product.
For programs that need maximum impact, we sometimes suggest a puff base with a metallic foil highlight on the raised area. The combination is unmistakable on dark garments and reads as a high-impact decorative accent for sports merchandise and youth-segment programs.
Where we run puff print in Türkiye
Puff print production sits on the same silkscreen presses as our standard apparel programs in Başakşehir and İkitelli, with a dedicated puff ink mixing station in Levent. Cotton and poly-cotton blanks come from Bursa, Kahramanmaraş and İzmir partner mills. Inks are sourced from European suppliers with consistent 7-10 working day replenishment cycles.
For corporate programs delivered to İstanbul offices, Ankara government and diplomatic addresses, İzmir trade-show venues, and Antalya resort venues, we run hand-delivery for high-value orders and tracked road freight for larger volumes.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for puff print?
Puff print starts at 30-50 units per design. Below 30 units we usually suggest DTF with high-density film for cost reasons. The per-unit price drops meaningfully above 100 units.
How long does puff print production take?
A standard 100-unit, four-colour corporate apparel order with one puff colour takes 10-14 working days. Express 7-10 day turnarounds are available on repeat orders with held blanks.
Which substrates work with puff print?
Cotton, poly-cotton above 50% cotton, fleece, French terry, sweatshirt knits. Avoid performance apparel that stretches heavily — dimensional ink doesn't stretch with the fabric.
Can puff match a corporate Pantone colour?
Puff inks reach Delta-E of 2-3 against a Pantone reference, slightly wider than standard plastisol. Custom-mixed puff colours are available with 2-4 working day lead time.
Is puff durable enough for uniform programs?
Puff survives 30-50 domestic wash cycles before visible flattening. Industrial laundering shortens service life. For heavy-duty uniform programs, standard plastisol or embroidery is recommended.
Is Corp-Merch a licensed puff ink printer or officially accredited by any ink manufacturer?
We are an independent corporate merch decoration provider in Türkiye. We are not licensed, endorsed or accredited by any garment brand, ink manufacturer or printing-equipment maker. Brand and product names are used to describe compatible substrates and decoration methods.
