What rhinestone decoration is and where it earns its place
Rhinestone decoration applies faceted glass or acrylic stones to apparel and accessories using a heat-press application. Each stone has a heat-activated adhesive on the back that bonds to the fabric when pressed at 160-180°C. The stones are placed in a custom template that defines the motif — a corporate logo, a team number, a brand pattern — and pressed onto the substrate in a single heat-press cycle.
Rhinestone decoration has been a staple of cheerleading, dance, sports merchandise, fashion and youth-segment apparel since the 1980s. The faceted stones catch light at every angle, producing a sparkle effect that is unmistakable and visually arresting. Stone types and sizes
Glass rhinestones (often called crystals) are the premium stone. They have higher refractive index and produce a brighter sparkle than acrylic. Glass rhinestones are available from European manufacturers (Swarovski-equivalent, Preciosa) with lead times of 5-10 working days for non-stock colours. Glass rhinestones cost 3-5× per piece more than acrylic but produce a noticeably brighter effect.
Acrylic rhinestones are the workhorse stone. They produce a good sparkle effect at a much lower cost than glass. Acrylic rhinestones are available in over 60 stock colours from Asian and European manufacturers with express availability. For most corporate programs, acrylic stones deliver the visual impact at the right price.
Stone sizes are measured in "ss" (stone size) units, where 1 ss = 1.93 mm diameter. Common corporate sizes: ss6 (1.93 mm — fine detail), ss10 (2.7 mm — small logos), ss16 (3.9 mm — medium logos), ss20 (4.7 mm — large logos), ss30 (6.4 mm — extra large accents). We typically mix sizes within a motif to create depth and visual hierarchy.
Specialty stones — pearl, metallic, fluorescent, AB-coated, glow-in-the-shape — extend the visual range. Pearl stones have a softer finish than faceted stones. Metallic stones have a chrome-like surface. Fluorescent stones glow under blacklight. AB-coated stones have an iridescent rainbow coating.
Substrates and product fit
Cotton, poly-cotton, polyester, fleece, softshell and most flat-weave fabrics accept rhinestone decoration cleanly. The fabric must be stable enough to hold the stones without distortion; very stretchy knits may lose stones around the edges after wear and washing.

Each rhinestone motif requires a custom template that defines the stone placement. Templates are produced from the supplied vector artwork — the logo, motif or pattern is converted to a stone-placement file that the rhinestone machine follows. Lead time on a new template is 1-3 working days for simple motifs and 3-5 working days for complex multi-colour motifs.
Motif complexity affects per-piece stone count and per-piece production time. A simple wordmark might have 100-300 stones; a complex corporate logo with detail might have 1,000-3,000 stones. We price per piece based on stone count, stone size and motif complexity.
For corporate logos that need to be reproduced consistently across a program, we hold the template in our template library for repeat orders. Repeat orders avoid the template setup fee and drop to 3-5 working days lead time.

Rhinestone decoration is most economical on runs of 25-500 pieces per motif. Below 25 pieces we usually suggest DTF with rhinestone film or glitter print for cost reasons. Above 500 pieces we run the fully automated rhinestone line at our İkitelli partner facility.

Rhinestone decoration delivers maximum visual impact but at a higher cost per piece than printed decoration. For programs where the sparkle is the value proposition (premium events, leadership apparel, varsity-style jackets), rhinestone wins.
Wash durability and care guidance
Rhinestone decoration survives 30-50 domestic wash cycles before visible stone loss begins. The keys are correct cure temperature (170°C for 15-20 seconds at medium-firm pressure), even heat distribution, and waiting 24 hours before the first wash. We supply a care card with every rhinestone-decorated apparel order: wash inside out at 30°C, line dry, do not iron directly on the stones.
For programs that need maximum wash durability — uniform programs, workwear, rental programs — rhinestone decoration has a shorter service life than embroidery or standard plastisol. We flag this at the brief stage and offer embroidery as the recommended alternative for heavy-duty uniform programs.
For programs that need a sparkle effect but require higher wash durability, we sometimes suggest DTF with rhinestone film or glitter print. Both deliver a sparkle finish with better wash durability than individual rhinestones.
