Leather-strap aprons for Türkiye's craft and hospitality masters
Full-grain veg-tan cross-back strap, denim or canvas bib, hand-finished in Zeytinburnu. For leather schools, master chefs and ateliers. MOQ 30 units, KDV 20% e-Fatura.
Why the leather strap is the move
A leather cross-back strap transforms a textile apron into a piece that wears for years. The strap distributes weight across the shoulders instead of the neck, so a chef working a 14-hour service or a leather craftsman bent over a stitching horse doesn't end the day with a raw patch under the hairline. İstanbul's leather cluster in Zeytinburnu still cuts and edges full-grain veg-tan by hand — we keep a short list of workshops there that handle 30–200 strap units per month. The bib itself is 12 oz selvedge denim, 14 oz waxed canvas, or 16 oz heavyweight duck, with a leather patch sewn to the chest or the lower hem.
Three straps, three price points
The standard strap is full-grain vegetable-tanned cowhide, 3.5 mm thick, 25 mm wide, cut and edged by hand, with antique-brass or nickelled hardware. The upgrade is a wider 38 mm strap in bridle leather, burnished and waxed, with solid brass hardware — the premium finish worn by master chefs and atelier leads. The third option is a recycled-leather strap (offcuts from Zeytinburnu's garment district, bonded and pressed) for sustainability-led programmes; it reads identically but the patina is shorter. All three straps are sourced within a 10 km radius of our İstanbul studio, so the lead time stays under 20 working days at 100 units.
Branding the leather
The strap is the right place for the brand mark on a leather-strap apron — a chest-left embroidery on the bib competes with the strap visually. Laser engraving on the leather patch (chest or lower hem) is the cleanest move: a 30×15 mm logo burned into the veg-tan, no ink, no thread, reads against the patina as the leather ages. For premium programmes we hand-stamp with a brass die — slower, deeper, and the kind of detail that survives a lifetime of wear. The bib itself stays unprinted or carries a small interior woven label so the visible face is dominated by the leather.
Runs and budget
MOQ is 30 units (we hold the floor because the strap is hand-cut). Standard lead time is 18–22 working days at 30–100 units, 25–30 working days at 100+ units because the bridle leather is sourced in longer cuts. Pricing ranges from TRY 1,650/unit at 30 units (denim bib, standard veg-tan strap) to TRY 4,200/unit at 30 units (waxed canvas bib, bridle leather strap, brass hardware). Strike-off sample TRY 580, returned if the order goes to 100+. All prices ex-KDV, e-Fatura with 20% line.
Türkiye context
Three audiences keep the leather-strap apron in steady rotation. İstanbul's leather schools in Zeytinburnu order 30–60 unit runs for new cohorts each spring and autumn, with the studio logo and the apprentice's initials on the chest. Master chefs at Karaköy and Beyoğlu restaurants buy 20–50 units per kitchen as chef coats and station markers — the strap identifies the rank. The third is the maker-atelier market: jewellers in Nişantaşı, ceramicists in Karaköy, woodworkers in Beykoz, who treat it as a 5–10 year wearable rather than a uniform.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the leather strap sourced?
Full-grain veg-tan and bridle leather from tanneries in the İstanbul leather cluster (Zeytinburnu). The strap is cut, edged and hardware-fitted by hand in the same district, so the lead chain is short and auditable.
Can we brand the strap itself rather than the bib?
Yes — laser engraving on a leather patch sewn to the strap, or hot-stamping with a brass die on the inside face of the strap so the mark is visible when the apron hangs on a hook. We do not engrave on the strap's load-bearing surface; the engraving goes on a patch.
What is the smallest run you accept?
30 units. The leather strap is cut and finished individually, so the floor is set by hand-finishing throughput. Smaller series are possible at a higher unit price but the bridle leather upgrade is not available below 18 units.
Do you offer recycled-leather options for sustainability programmes?
Yes — the recycled-leather strap uses offcuts from Zeytinburnu's garment district, bonded and pressed. It reads identically when new but the patina is shorter (3–5 years vs 10+ for full-grain). Add a sustainability mark on the bib's interior woven label.
What hardware options are available?
Antique brass, nickel, blackened steel, and solid brass for the premium upgrade. D-rings and buckles are sourced from the same Zeytinburnu suppliers that supply the hotel-supply industry in İstanbul.
How do you invoice, and what about export?
Domestic: e-Fatura with KDV 20%. EU export: tax-free invoice with EUR.1 certificate of origin, DDP shipping via İstanbul customs zone. Strike-off sample cost credited at 100+ units.
