Why badges matter in Cyprus schools and universities
Cyprus schools issue a photo ID badge to every staff member from Year-1 teaching assistants to the principal — that is 60 to 200 badges per campus per academic year. International schools (ISCED, Pascal, The English School, American Academy) reissue badges every September for staff and every two years for new pupils. Universities issue staff badges for 1,500–3,500 employees plus event badges for 3,000–5,000 conference delegates per open day. Models and materials that fit
The default for staff photo-ID badges is the Durable 1453-02 in 760 µm PVC with a credit-card format (86×54 mm), gloss laminate and a slot punch for a lanyard or a click-safe clip. For university event badges the Durable 1452-22 in 760 µm PVC with a writable panel and a colour-coded stripe (1 of 4 stock colours) is the workhorse — the writable panel lets the same badge get reused across cohort years by swapping the printed insert. For pupil IDs at international schools we move up to the Evolis RCT023NA in PVC with an embedded MIFARE Classic 1K chip for cashless canteen and library access.
Prints and branding approaches
Sublimation print on PVC with a 5-mil gloss laminate is the standard for photo-ID badges — the print hits 1200 dpi and the laminate protects against hand-sanitiser, whiteboard marker and weekly washing. The school crest goes on the upper left at 25×25 mm, the staff name and role go centre, the academic year is printed in the lower-right corner in a small bold font. For university event badges we add a sponsor strip on the lower 12 mm of the badge, separated by a thin keyline, so the sponsor's logo is present but secondary. Barcodes (Code 128) and QR codes are printed as part of the artwork — they survive 12 months of wallet friction at 1200 dpi.
Bundling and packaging
Staff badges are packed 50 per master carton with a perforated top so the HR officer can hand out a single badge without opening a polybag. University event badges ship in bulk (1,000 per carton) with a perforated A4 sheet of 10 badges per sheet for easy distribution at the registration desk. We do not provide clip-on or lanyard accessories by default — those are ordered separately from the lanyard SKU.

MOQ is 50 units for the standard PVC 1453-02 staff badge, 100 for the 1452-22 event badge and 100 for the Evolis MIFARE pupil ID. Lead time is 5 business days for photo-ID badges with a fixed name list, 8 business days for event badges with variable data (per-attendee name and QR code), 10 business days for the MIFARE chip encoding. Budget band: €1.10–€1.85 per unit at 100 units for the 1453-02, dropping to €0.85 at 500; €1.40–€2.20 for the 1452-22; €4.50–€6.20 for the MIFARE chip. Quotes are EUR net, VAT 19% added for Cyprus-registered schools.

Can you print a barcode or QR code that survives wallet friction for 12 months?
Yes — Code 128 barcodes and QR codes are printed at 1200 dpi as part of the artwork and sealed under the gloss laminate. The laminate protects the print from the friction of being in a wallet next to keys and coins. For library cards and canteen access we add a 0.5 mm protective overlaminate patch directly over the barcode to extend the readable life to 24+ months.
Do you encode MIFARE chips for international school pupil IDs?
Yes — we encode MIFARE Classic 1K chips with the pupil's library and canteen credentials, printed and encoded at the Limassol production line. Encoding takes 30 seconds per badge and is the bottleneck for large pupil-ID orders; a 1,000-pupil order runs at 5 business days with a parallel encoding rig. Schools send the pupil data as a CSV (name, class, parental consent flag) and we ship the encoded badges back in numerical order.
How fast can a 4,000-piece event badge order for the University of Cyprus careers fair turn around?
8 business days for the 1452-22 event badge with variable data (per-attendee name, company, QR code). Submit the attendee CSV by Day 0 and the order ships from Limassol by Day 8 — that meets the typical pre-event registration window. We hold a 3-day rush lane for genuine emergencies (a sponsor drop-out, a venue pivot); rush premium is +25% and the slot has to be confirmed by phone.
Can you print variable data (different names) on the same badge run?
Yes — variable-data print is the standard for event badges and staff IDs. Send the names as a CSV or Excel sheet with the badge template columns (name, role, cohort) and we run a single-pass print. Per-variable cost is €0.04 per badge over the fixed-print baseline. We can also encode a 1D or 2D barcode from the same data sheet for fast on-site scanning.
Do you supply the lanyards and click-safe clips alongside the badges?
We supply lanyards separately from the lanyard SKU — a 20 mm polyester lanyard with a safety breakaway and a metal lobster clip is the standard for school staff badges. For pupil IDs the click-safe plastic clip (no metal parts, no choking risk) is the standard for under-12 pupils. We can bundle the lanyard + badge order on a single PO for an integrated delivery, which simplifies the school's procurement.
