A Nicosia art gallery wanted 50 tees for a private-viewing gift, each carrying a fine-art photograph on the back in full colour. DTF reproduced the photograph sharply but sat on top of the fabric as a 0.15 mm film; DTG printed the photograph directly into the cotton yarn with water-based pigment, leaving the hand-feel soft and the colours as rich as the original print. Models and materials that work with DTG on a t-shirt

DTG requires 100% cotton (or at minimum 80% cotton / 20% polyester with reduced vibrancy). The standard grade is 180 gsm ringspun combed cotton (Gildan 64000, B&C Exact 150, Sol's Imperial). The premium tier is 220 gsm heavyweight cotton-rich (Stanley/Stella Stella Stellar, Continental N03). Triblend and 100% polyester do not work — the water-based pigment will not bond without a pre-treatment that DTG cannot apply to synthetic fibres. Print placements: chest-left (100×100 mm), chest-centre (280×350 mm), full back (380×480 mm), sleeve (80×80 mm). Light garments (white, pastel, light grey) print at full vibrancy; dark garments need a pre-treatment spray and a white ink underbase at +€0.80 per tee at 100-quantity.

Print specifics: pre-treatment, ink, and cure

The tee is mounted on a Brother GTX-422 (or comparable Kornit Avalanche HD6 for production runs above 200 units) platen, pre-treated with a synthetic resin spray that bonds the pigment to the cotton fibre, then printed in CMYK+W at 1200 dpi. Cure at 160°C for 90 seconds in a conveyor dryer. The print sits inside the cotton yarn — no film, no raised surface, no plastic feel. On white and pastel tees the print is a single CMYK pass; on dark tees a white underbase is printed first at 100 micron density, then the CMYK stack on top. Wash durability: 30+ machine-wash cycles at 30°C with mild detergent. Beyond 30 washes the print begins to fade — DTG is softer than DTF but less durable.

Bundling and packaging

T-shirts ship folded in 280×360 mm poly mailers (€0.20 per mailer uplift) or in a kraft gift box with tissue interleave for VIP tiers (€1.20 per box uplift). Bulk deliveries to a Limassol office go in master cartons of 25 tees each. Each parcel carries a 60×90 mm care card. For retail sale we add a branded belly band hanger and a 10×150 mm size strip on the collar. Does DTG work on triblend or 100% polyester?

No — DTG requires 100% cotton. The water-based pigment bonds to cotton fibre via the pre-treatment; on triblend or polyester the pigment will wash out in 2–3 cycles. For triblend or polyester, choose DTF or sublimation instead.
